A teenager from Kingston tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Rosedale Road in South Frontenac Township on Saturday, January 4, 2025, shortly after 5:30 p.m. The collision occurred just north of the village of Sydenham, prompting a response from Frontenac Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), South Frontenac Fire and Rescue, and Frontenac Paramedics.
A commercial express van traveling along the road collided with the 15-year-old pedestrian, who was walking in the same direction. Paramedics pronounced the young male dead at the scene, while another pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The 57-year-old driver of the vehicle, from Harrowsmith, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. According to the OPP, alcohol was detected, and a roadside breath test placed the driver in the warning range. As a result, he was issued a three-day administrative driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was towed for further inspection. The road experienced a closure lasting several hours, but it has subsequently been reopened.
The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the OPP’s Technical Collision Investigator and Reconstructionist, as well as the Ontario Chief Coroner’s office. The Frontenac OPP is asking for any witnesses, dashcam footage, or doorbell camera recordings related to the incident to come forward.
