Guiding fruit flies like micro-robots using pinwheels and light

A team of bioengineers at Harvard University’s Rowland Institute has found two new ways to control a tiny creature, essentially turning it into a micro-robot. In their study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the group used a fruit fly’s natural response to moving stimuli and odorants to effectively direct its movements.
